This is according to Dragon Ball FighterZ producer Tomoko Hiroki. Hiroki was specifically asked if there were any plans to support cross-play between the PC and PS4 versions of Dragon Ball FighterZ, as we’ve seen in other fighting games like Street Fighter 5, but his comments indicate that cross-play isn’t in the works for any version of the game.

For anyone hoping to play Dragon Ball FighterZ with friends on other platforms, this news is sure to be disappointing. It’s also somewhat surprising, as cross-play has become more popular, and one would have guessed that cross-play between the PC and Xbox One versions would be coming, at the very least.

After all, Microsoft’s push for PC gaming has seen it make an effort to support unity between the platform and Xbox through programs like Xbox Play Anywhere and cross-play. Furthermore, Dragon Ball FighterZ made its debut at E3 2017 during Microsoft’s press conference, so it seemed even more likely that the game would support some of Microsoft’s endeavors.

While cross-play isn’t currently planned for Dragon Ball FighterZ, plans could change in the future. The game isn’t expected to launch until next year, and if support for cross-play continues to increase in the coming months, Bandai Namco may very well decide it’s worth taking the time to include the feature.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will launch in 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
