For reference, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot released back in mid January, and it’s been about half a year since then. During those six months, only one of the game’s three announced DLCs has been released, and no new information about the second or third has come to light. Given the game’s distinct lack of endgame content and Bandai Namco’s unwillingness to share any information on its future, many have either moved on to other titles for the time being or given up on the game completely. Even so, there are still some that hold on to hope that DBZ: Kakarot will return to form with its second DLC and provide the experience which made the base game so popular.

DBZ: Kakarot DLC 1 Release Schedule

As mentioned previously, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot released in mid January. From then, the season pass remained mysterious for around three months. It wasn’t until March 23rd that the first official announcement of Kakarot’s DLC 1 was posted by Bandai Namco, and even that only gave fans a “Spring 2020 release.” From then on, fans waited until April 21st to hear a release date, exactly one week before the DLC would eventually come out. This pattern, though not ideal, could have worked for the rest of the DLCs.

It’s worth mentioning that a single release doesn’t necessarily constitute a pattern, but many releases typically follow some type of pipline, especially for content that is similar. This still means the lack of DBZ:K news is bewildering for many.

The expectation was that two months after DLC 1 came out, Bandai Namco would announce DLC 2. This would have taken place sometime in late June or at the very latest early July, but obviously no such announcement has been made. Following this, it was thought that a release date would be given sometime towards the end of July and that the DLC would release in the last week of July. Given that July is already well under way, it seems unlikely that the DLC will actually release this month since there’s been no official announcement trailer.

Perhaps the most frustrating thing about all of this for fans of the game is the complete lack of communication. Bandai Namco’s Twitter account will occasionally post tidbits promoting the base game or share information about the recent addition of the Tao Pai Pai pillar, but the comment sections of these tweets are always full of fans practically begging for information about DLC 2. It’s clear that fans are dissatisfied with the post-launch status of the game, so it doesn’t make much sense that Bandai Namco hasn’t talked to fans about it.

There hasn’t even been a reason given for the slow speed of DLC production, and it’s not impossible that COVID-19 has something to do with it. If that’s the case, then a simple announcement would be enough, but each passing day makes it seem less and less likely.

Now that the previous pattern has been broken, fans have nothing to go off of in terms of predicting the DLC release date or even having a vague idea of when to expect it. Most would like to think that DLC 2 will come sometime this Summer, but at this point, no one can be certain about that. To make matters worse, it stands to reason Kakarot’s DLC 2 may be even shorter than DLC 1 based on what could appear, which was already a point of contention for the first one. Ultimately, Bandai Namco has tested the limit of fans’ patience when it comes to post launch support, and it will need to make a move quickly to correct the course.
