Trunks - The Warrior of Hope is the third and final DLC for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and it pits the titular warrior against the two mighty androids. There are several story encounters that include these two adversaries as enemies, but they also appear as random encounters and a new training module as well. Since Future Trunks doesn’t have any allies to fight alongside him, these battles usually wind up being two against one as well, so there’s a lot to consider when taking them on. Everything that players need to know to be victorious can be found below.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 3 - Androids 17 and 18 Moveset

The first step to winning any battle is to know the enemy, and that holds true here as well. Both Androids have an array of different attacks that the player will want to familiarize themselves with. These attacks are different than those used by the Androids in the Cell Saga.

Android 17

Savage Combo - Android 17 rushes at the player and performs a three hit melee attack combo against the player. Hell Storm - Android 17 charges up and fires six homing balls of yellow energy at the player. Barrier - Android 17 generates a green barrier around himself. The player cannot damage him and touching the barrier deals damage and sends them flying. Savage Blaster - Android 17 summons countless rays of energy and fires them in the player’s direction. Variable Catcher - Android 17 shoots three to five green energy balls. If they hit the player, they will be stunned in place and susceptible to damage.

Android 18

Sadistic 18 - Android 18 teleports to the player and delivers a devastating combo. Blocking the first hit negates the entire move. Palm Smash - Android 18 spins and hits a 360 degree area around her. Hell Blaster - Android 18 aims at the player and charges an attack. She fire missiles with a haphazard flight pattern that loosely track the player. Hell Nova - Android 18 charges up an explosive attack. Ultimate Blaster - Android 18 fires a volley of large, pink Ki blasts at the player.

Both Androids will sometimes work together, flying side by side and glowing their respective colors. When this happens, they are preparing to deliver a combo attack on the player. This can be interrupted with a Ki blast, but will deal heavy damage if it connects.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 3 - Android Story Battles

All total, there are at least five battles with Androids as part of the story. For the first half of these battles, players will be using Future Gohan as their playable character, sometimes with Teen Trunks as a support character. After reaching the second episode of the DLC, this changes. Now fights against the Android will take place with only Trunks in the party. This makes things more challenging for a number of reasons, especially early on when Trunks isn’t quite as powerful as Future Gohan was.

After players beat the main story of the DLC, they can speak to Bulma in order to enter the training room. From here, players can challenge Androids 17 and 18 again. This will also be a fight with only Future Trunks in the party, so players should be prepared for that. It is also set at level 65, one of the higher leveled challenges to be found in DLC 3 of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 3 - Android Assault

One new mechanic in Dragon Ball Z :Kakarot DLC 3 is the introduction of Android Assault battles. During certain parts of the story, areas of the map will be patrolled by old Red Ribbon Army drones. If players get too close to one of these drones, a meter will fill up to indicate that the player is getting scanned. Once this becomes full, the Androids will locate Trunks and Gohan and begin their assault. This differs from a regular battle in one important way, however.

Whereas players are intended to win story mode battles by reducing the enemy’s health to zero, Android Assault battles have a different victory condition. Before starting one of these battles, two battle conditions will be shown on the screen. Completing either of these will make the battle a success, as Gohan and Trunks are simply trying to escape. The battle conditions change every time the player triggers the drone alarm, but they typically involve dealing enough damage to the Androids, stunning them, or landing a certain number of hits. These fights always put the player in control of Future Gohan rather than Trunks.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 3 - How to Beat the Androids

Having to take on both Androids at once is a tall task, but there is one simple trick that will make this much easier. Generally speaking, the Androids will always take on one of two rolls. One Android will go on the offensive, preferring to stay engaged with the player and rely on melee attacks and techniques. Meanwhile, the other Android will hang back, providing supporting fire and using techniques that immobilize or otherwise impair movement and interrupt combos.

The important thing to remember is that these roles aren’t set. Throughout the fight, Android 17 and 18 will switch up their approach, but they always fall into one of these two roles. In order to defeat them, the player needs to focus their attacks on whichever enemy is being more aggressive. Instinct will likely tell players to focus down one Android until the fight becomes a one on one, but ignoring the enemy when they are playing aggressively will make trying to finish off the other one far too challenging. Using this strategy will make a seemingly impossible fight much more bearable.
