This episode isn’t as memorable as Goku and Piccolo racing to get their license, so fans who don’t remember it shouldn’t worry, as many others didn’t either. Essentially, Gohan struggles not to draw attention to himself in high school and fails miserably due to being thousands of times more powerful than the other kids.

The mini-game references the baseball sequence of the episode and is accurately called “Home Run Game.” Each game will consist of 3 pitches (rounds) and sees players pressing a button prompt at just the right moment to knock the pitched ball as far out of the park as possible. The more accurately players time their press, the higher the resulting score will be.

High scores will award players with prizes, but the clip didn’t specify what kind. Players will work to beat their high score – or the scores of other individuals – in four escalating difficulties: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Legendary. Each difficulty will feature a new pitcher with a different pitching style. From easiest to hardest, the pitchers consist of Sharpner (Gohan’s “bully” in high school), Yamcha, Android 18, and Vegeta.

In the clip, Sharpner’s pitches are fairly linear, making it easier for players to get used to the game’s timing, but Yamcha shows that pitchers will have unique pitches. His is called “Wolf Fang Pitch,” and it curves the ball in different directions on screen. Both Android 18 and Vegeta show that they throw spiral balls but don’t reveal their special pitches. The two characters have the highest difficulty settings, though, so theirs should be more demanding than Yamcha’s. Bulma actually warns players to watch out for Vegeta, so that should put things into perspective a bit.

Overall, the pitching lineup for this DBZ: Kakarot mini-game pulls off being both accurate and funny, which gives it a bit more charm. Sharpner was Gohan’s original pitcher in the episode, so starting the game off with him makes sense. Yamcha is a pro baseball player so not having him in the rotation would be a missed opportunity. As for 18, she loves to kill time, so playing “America’s pastime” fits her almost too well, and just the thought of Vegeta’s competitive nature being applied to baseball sounds hilarious.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on January 17, 2020.
