The Nintendo NX and PS4 editions of Dragon Quest X will join the previously released Wii, Wii U, and PC versions of the game. Saito confirmed this in an interview with Famitsu, where he indicated that he believes an influx of new players will start playing the MMO once it comes to NX and PS4.
While we now have official confirmation that Dragon Quest X is coming to Nintendo NX, it’s unclear if that applies to anywhere outside of Japan. Currently, Dragon Quest X is only available in that country, but the launch of a new console could be the perfect opportunity to introduce it to other regions. Dragon Quest fans that live outside of Japan would probably appreciate the opportunity to play it, as it is the only game in the series that hasn’t released outside of Japan to date.
Another unknown is whether or not this means Dragon Quest XI can also be added to the growing list of Nintendo NX games as well. Back when Square Enix first discussed bringing Dragon Quest X to NX, Dragon Quest XI was mentioned too, but again, that statement was retracted. Saito made no mention of Dragon Quest XI coming to NX in his Famitsu interview, but it’s reasonable to assume that the game is also making its way to NX.
More details on the NX and PS4 versions of Dragon Quest X and XI could come as early as Tokyo Game Show in September. As one of the premiere gaming companies in Japan, Square Enix will look to have a significant presence at TGS 2016, and bringing the new entries in one of its biggest franchises would help it accomplish that. Of course, that is assuming Nintendo given Nintendo NX a proper unveiling by the time Tokyo Game Show rolls around, otherwise we may not see anything of the games until next year.
Dragon Quest X is available for PC, Wii, and Wii U in Japan, and is in development for PS4 and Nintendo NX.
