Dragon Quest Rivals Ace is a free-to-play, digital card collection game published by Square Enix. It was originally launched back in November 2017 for mobile devices under the name Dragon Quest Rivals. The game would later be rebranded to Dragon Quest Rivals Ace in 2020.

Similar to strategic card-based games like Hearthstone, players were able to create decks of cards featuring both characters and monsters from the Dragon Quest franchise. After equipping their chosen items and spells, players could then battle it out in matches featuring turn-based combat.
A PC version of Dragon Quest Rivals Ace was later released in 2018, with a Nintendo Switch port of the game being released the following year. However, with the shutdown of the Yahoo! Games Player on June 23rd of last year, the PC version was shut down, on June 11th, 2020.
According to Square Enix, there were a couple of contributing factors leading to its eventual decision to terminate Dragon Quest Rivals Ace. Tatsuhiro Futagi, a producer with Square Enix, mentioned that some factors included experiencing difficulties with operating a business dealing in competitive gaming. Along with being unable to continue offering fans the best experiences, other factors for the game’s shut down seem to be tied to the ongoing global pandemic.
Dragon Quest Rivals Ace will be officially shut down on Monday, July 5th, 2021 for all versions of the game including the Nintendo Switch and PC, as well as all iOS, Android, and mobile devices.
