In order to get the best treasures from each of the locations in Draconia, players will need a good distribution of monsters on their teams to help them out. Each of these companions will have access to a Forte, and some of these are much more useful than the others in the JRPG Dragon Quest Treasures. To get the right team for each outing, players will need to match them up as closely as possible to the location they are heading to.
How To Recruit Monsters in Dragon Quest Treasures
In order to get a bunch of monsters for a team in Dragon Quest Treasures, players will first need to recruit them. This requires heading out into the world and defeating them. With each new type of monster defeated, there is a chance to recruit them to Erik and Mia’s cause. There are items that raise the recruitment rate for any monster, and they were included as DLC and preorder bonuses for Dragon Quest Treasures.

Better Buddy Bullet - Increases the chance that monsters will want to join the player’s party. Bestest Buddy Bullet - Massively raises the chance that monsters will want to join the player’s party.
Here’s how to get a good selection of monsters to join the Treasure Hunts:
Head out into the world with whatever monsters are currently available. While just using whatever monsters are available is a big mistake made by new Dragon Quest Treasures players, at the beginning of the game, players will just have to use whatever is available. Hunt down as many different kinds of monsters as possible. Keep in mind that different times of the day and locations will offer different monsters. Use Bullets whenever possible to help the chances of getting at least one of each kind of monster available. Head back to the hideout and chat with Miss Cecily; she’s the one in the pink armor. Click “See Potential New Recruits. " A list of all new possible monsters will appear. Players can recruit more than one of the same monster. There are four levels of monster, and each of these four will have a different border around their portrait. If players have the right items to recruit them, the board will say, “FEE READY. " Fees can include money, items, or cooked dishes. Click on a monster and look through its stats, including Fortes, HP, abilities, and more. Players can then choose to recruit them, keep them waiting, or let them go with the minus button. Once a monster is recruited, players can change the makeup of their party when they choose a new location to head to in the station.
An Introduction to Fortes in Dragon Quest Treasures
There are a total of five Fortes in Dragon Quest Treasures that monsters can come with. When recruiting every monster, players can access their stats which will include which Forte they come with.
Forte 1: Launch - This gives players a high jump by bouncing off of monsters. Forte 2: Glide - These monsters can be used as gliders by Erik and Mia. Forte 3: Sprint - This Forte lets players ride a monster. Forte 4: Stealth - Stealth hides Erik or Mia under the ground, giving them lower clearance to go under low-hanging places and hide from enemies. Forte 5: Scan - Scanning shows players where all the collectible items are out in the world in a radius.
While each of these can be useful in its own way, there are some Fortes that are better than others; since players can only bring three monsters at a time, a great tip for anyone playing Dragon Quest Treasures is that they will need to choose the best of these three to bring along.
Stealth is the most useful of these Fortes in this casual RPG. It can be used to hide from unwanted fights and slide under things Erik and Mia might not otherwise be able to get under. This is limited, and players will need to upgrade their monsters to get longer ride-along times. Scan is also a very useful thing; this Forte will show the locations of just about everything of use in the area, including plants, rocks, and chests. Some of the best early-game monsters in Dragon Quest Treasures have this Forte. Launch, Guide, and Sprint are all useful but are dependent on the location players are traveling to. Players should prioritize the movement tech that is most useful for the location.
The Best Group Compositions in Dragon Quest Treasures
Unfortunately, there is not one best team for every situation and every Dragon Quest Treasure side quest. Each location that players can head to has different requirements, meaning that each location will have a different best team. Thankfully, when putting a team together for a location, Dragon Quest Treasures has a helpful system that allows players to see how well their team matches up with the location. Always aim for 100% for every location that Erik and Mia can visit.
Dragon Quest Treasures is available now for Nintendo Switch.
