The reasons for Drake Hollow’s delay can’t be fully explained, according to studio director Forrest Dowling on social media. Dowling explains that the causes are “technical, boring, complicated to explain, and all under NDA anyway.” Suffice to say, The Molasses Flood has work that must be done before Drake Hollow can launch.

The delay of Drake Hollow comes as somewhat of a shocking surprise. The action game has been featured prominently during some of June’s biggest game showcase events, including IGN’s Summer of Gaming and Double Fine’s Day of the Devs. This included several lengthy gameplay showcases which made it seem like Drake Hollow was near to completion. That’s game development, though.
Dowling goes on to apologize for the delay, saying that he wants the game “in your hands even more than you do.” For the time being, Dowling says that while the beta won’t be returning, the team is “thinking about fun stuff we can do along the way.” Again, there’s no new release date or window for the time being, so those looking forward to Drake Hollow will simply have to wait for more information down the line.
Drake Hollow is coming to PC and Xbox One.
